Hello! My name is Janice Kanyusik. I feel very fortunate to work as a counselor at Nicolet College. Each day I assist students who are actually transforming their lives as they work to create and achieve their educational goals.

My purpose as a counselor is to help students so that they can complete their educational programs and reach their goals. I do this by providing support as they face the personal and life challenges (both in and out of the classroom) that, if not dealt with, can zap the very energy they need to focus on their studies; by assisting them in developing strategies for overcoming the barriers they may face so they can continue in college; and by helping them develop the thinking/emotional/communication skills and the confidence they need to succeed as a student and then go on to make their own unique contributions in the fields of their choice. I am passionate about counseling and I appreciate the daily opportunity to help students tackle the challenging, often overwhelming, stressors they face.

I have a Master's Degree in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. My Bachelors Degree, from St. Cloud State University, is in Elementary Education. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Wisconsin, and certified by the Wisconsin Technical College System. I am also certified to teach courses such as Career Exploration, College Success, Assertive Communication, English as a 2nd Language, Goal/Basic Skills. I am a trained hospice and bereavement volunteer. I am a member of the American Counseling Association.

Prior to working as a counselor at Nicolet College, I taught parenting classes and child development courses, worked in domestic violence shelter programs in Wisconsin and Minnesota, taught Kindergarten, was an assistant teacher in a school for developmentally disabled children, and worked as a reading tutor, a nursing assistant, a waitress, a store clerk, and a factory worker. My husband and I have two adult sons.

I like to walk, read, kayak, make art pieces from materials found in nature, write poetry, watch movies, spend time with friends and family.

I look forward to meeting you!
