Small Engine Maintenance Technician - Adjunct Faculty Member

Located in scenic northern Wisconsin, Nicolet College is a two-year technical and community college that serves as the only higher education resource and cultural center for six counties. Nicolet College is an open admissions college and is the regional university Transfer College and technical college. The college offers over 32 associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and apprenticeship programs.
Position Description
This is a community faculty position beginning in the 2008-2009 academic year, and may be continued. Under the supervision of the Dean of Instruction and in collaboration with other faculty, the person will teach and facilitate student learning in the Small Engine Maintenance Technician diploma program.
Responsibilities will be at the Lake Julia campus and designated outreach locations with variable hours that may include day, evening and/or weekend teaching assignments. In addition, faculty maintain office hours, maintain curriculum and programs, and actively participate in the diverse communities served by the college.
Duties/Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Maintain and deliver performance-based, learning-centered instruction in accordance with the mission/vision and philosophy of Nicolet College in small engine technology to include marine and outdoor power products, including courses in introduction to small engines, small engines II, snowmobile/ATV repair, and introduction to sport marine motors.
- Provide individual and group assistance to students in the acquisition of lab competencies.
- Assist students in using technical references, developing diagnostic and repair procedures, and operating technical equipment in accordance with industry standards.
- Encourage beneficial contacts with external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with other faculty and administrators to benefit program review, curriculum and course development, assessment of student learning, advisory committees, and student recruitment and retention.
- Engage in college facilitated professional development that is discipline-specific, enhances teaching and learning practice.
- Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Participate in department activities including department meetings.
- Assist students by providing advice regarding their academic career path and career opportunities.
- Maintain professional affiliations and certifications.
- Assist articulations with area high schools.
- Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students and submit required reports according to published deadlines.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree (bachelor’s degree preferred) in small engine technology, engineering, education, or a closely related field (experience may substitute for education). Two years of occupational experience outside of teaching needed for certification.Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students of varied ages, learning styles, academic levels, and cultural backgrounds in classroom and non-classroom settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to create and facilitate student learning.
- Demonstrated ability to teach practical interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to teach. Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary setting preferred.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods preferred that might include ITV, Internet, Video, and Accelerated Learning methods.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and maintain positive working relationships across the college and in the district.
Certification
- Meet and maintain Wisconsin Technical College System certification requirements.
- Certification from major outboard marine motor company and/or factory trained by major manufacturer of small engines, ATV’s, snowmobiles, and/or personal watercraft preferred.
Beginning Date
August 2008 or as soon thereafter as possible.
Salary
Depending on qualifications and experience.
