Between Vilas and Oneida County
there are more than 2,000 lakes that
recreation lovers have come to
appreciate. To say that Wisconsinites
love their lakes may be a bit of an
understatement. For those in search of
solitude, woodland lakes offer the
peaceful characteristics lake lovers
and fisher people enjoy. Woodland
lakes are typically small lakes with
poor access and little to no shoreline
development. Access is typically by
logging road and lake access is
unimproved and suitable for kayak,
canoe or rowboat. This makes
woodland lakes perfect for the fly
fisher who enjoys solitude along with
the challenge of catching fish on fly
tackle. Students will learn how to find
woodland lakes using maps, select
woodland lakes based on limnological
characteristics, select fly patterns for
woodland lake fish species, and read
lake habitat to locate fish.
