In this guided introduction to the latest and most feature-rich operating system for everyday users, you’ll learn to organize your desktop and start menu, to customize the Windows environment, and to perform basic system maintenance tasks. Could it be true that too many cookies and too much cache can make your computer unhappy? Join this class to learn some tips and tricks for keeping your computer running smoothly. You'll learn about system tools in Windows XP (and other operating systems), including ScanDisk/Error Checking and Disk Defragmenter. Learn to empty the secret hiding places that may clog up your computer. Explore how to get into Safe Mode to run diagnostics or systems tools, the components of System Restore in ME/XP, as well as how to make your computer run faster by cleaning up your startup. You’ll also learn to download free software to scan and remove Spyware so that you have fewer system crashes and lockups while surfing the Web. Portable Applications


A portable application is a free program that is NOT installed on a computer’s hard drive. Instead, it is stored and run from a USB flash drive. In this class, you will download and install on your USB flash drive a suite of portable applications including a web browser, email client, office suite, calendar/scheduler, instant messaging client, antivirus, Sudoku game, backup utility, and integrated menu. You must bring a USB flash drive with at least 512 megabytes of free space to class. Prerequisite: A working knowledge of the Windows environment, mouse and keyboard. 42-103-43002

Windows Movie Maker 2

Learn Windows Movie Maker 2 which comes packaged with Windows XP and Vista. It can also be downloaded for free from Microsoft.com. This application will allow you to use Movie Maker’s many features to create exciting movies or slide shows from captured video, digital photos, graphic files and more. The class begins with a basic overview of the Movie Maker 2 interface and advances to cover topics such as editing movie clips for insertion into a slideshow/movie, adding special effects, inserting transitions, creating titles, and adding music. Photo Editing Basics

Do the people in your pictures have red eyes? Need to remove a few wrinkles and even out some skin tones? This course is designed to help you learn to modify digital photos and scanned images, and to make adjustments and corrections on your home computer. Learn the basics of photo editing, and soon you'll be able to crop, rotate, resize, and adjust the contrast or brightness of your digital photos and scanned images.
