1. Submit Application, Application Fee, Transcripts

Online Application Form

Anyone who wishes to be admitted to and graduate from a technical program, or anyone who registers for six or more credits, must apply and be admitted before they can register for classes. Nicolet, along with the 15 other technical colleges in the state, uses the Wisconsin Technical College System Application for Admissions form. These forms are available from district high school guidance counselors, all technical colleges, on the website, or by contacting the Admissions Office.

The application fee, when submitted online, must still be paid with a credit card. Students are encouraged to apply for admissions early as many programs fill up quickly or may even have waiting lists. There is however, no application deadline.

The application and one-time, non-refundable $30 application fee (please do not send cash) should be sent to the Admissions Office along with official high school transcripts and transcripts of any other prior post-secondary work, if applicable. Anyone currently enrolled in high school or any high school graduate, can contact his or her high school to have an official transcript mailed or faxed (FAX number for sending transcripts is 715-365-4901).

Transcripts from all other college or related post-secondary schools attended and ACT scores, if the ACT was taken within the last five years, should also be included with the application. Students will be contacted by letter when the Admissions Office has received the application, application fee, and transcripts and will receive information about scheduling a mandatory admissions interview.

2. Complete Interview and Accuplacer Testing

During the Admissions Interview, counselors will discuss a student's program choice and career goals, as well as provide the student with information about the Accuplacer Basic Skills assessment (if a student has not taken an ACT), academic advising, registration, financial aid, and the other college services. Following the interview, students have the option of doing some basic skills brush up before taking the Accuplacer. Test results interpretation is available to students immediately following testing from the counseling staff.

The ACT is strongly recommended for high school students entering the University Transfer Liberal Arts Program. Current high school students should check with their guidance office about the ACT schedule of testing and registration requirements. Nicolet College is a site for ACT testing on various Saturdays throughout the year, but students must pre-register for the exam.

Accuplacer test scores will not prohibit a student from entering the college, but may have a bearing on a student's placement into programs and certain courses.

Certain programs may require additional testing in areas such as algebra or keyboarding as part of program admission.

All testing is done free of charge through the Nicolet Internship/Placement Office. No appointments are necessary for Accuplacer testing. Testing is administered Monday through Thursday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and on Friday from 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Specialized testing is done by appointment.

3. Acceptance Status

Following Accuplacer testing, the Admissions Office will notify the students of their acceptance as pre-program students. Some students with very low test scores may be referred to our Basic Education Center for remediation prior to program admission.

Just prior to the new student registration period each semester, accepted students will receive a letter from the Academic Advising/Registration/Records Office telling them to make an appointment to attend a group registration session or meet with their academic advisor and register for classes. Accuplacer scores will be discussed in greater detail with students during their advising session.

4. Academic Advising/Registration

All Nicolet students are assigned an academic advisor based on their program of study. Advisors are available to assist students at any time during their educational experience at the college. They can provide information about course selection, interpretation of test scores, program and major requirements, transfer of credits, transcript evaluation, articulation of courses, credit for prior learning, and anything else regarding a student's academic records and requirements.

All new Nicolet students must meet with an advisor in order to register for their first semester's classes. Continuing students should also meet with their advisor each semester prior to registration, to insure they are on track for graduation or completion of educational goals. Advisors see students by appointment in the Academic Advising/Registration/Records Office. Following advising, students may register online or change their schedule online during the open registration period. Tuition and fees are not due until fee deadline, which is 10 days prior to the start of the semester.

Testing Exemptions

Students may be exempted from Accuplacer testing if they have taken an ACT test within the last five years and submit the results along with their admissions application. Students who have completed more than 12 post-secondary credits at another college or university within the last five years and have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or who have earned a bachelor's degree or higher may also be exempted from taking the Accuplacer.
