LIR Members to Vote on Proposed Bylaws Amendments

At the Jan. 10, 2012, Winter/Spring Kick-off, Learning in Retirement members will be asked to vote on several proposed amendments to the LIR Bylaws, as amended May 20, 2010.

LIR's Steering Committee, with support of the Ad Hoc Bylaws Review Committee, examined the Bylaws and identified several sections that require updates and a new section to be added to meet LIR's evolving needs. Together, the committees drafted the proposed amendments.

The Steering Committee recommends a vote in favor of the proposed amendments.

A copy of the proposals with rationale for each accompanies this notice (see links below).

Most noticeable is the proposed name change from "Institute for Learning in Retirement" to "Learning in Retirement." The Steering Committee had intended to put the change to a vote in May 2010; however, certain required procedures were inadvertently missed that negated the change. For an explanation of the name change, please see the rationale statement.

Members with questions before the Jan. 10 Kick-off may contact a Member of the Steering Committee. Or, they will have an opportunity to discuss the proposals at the meeting.

Steering Committee Members: Ed Lee, John Randolph, Connie Griesbach, Charlotte Schneider, Michael Shores, Corrine Durkin, Rita Shores, Janet Reznichek, Nancy Reznichek, Nancy Brissee, and Sandy Kinney

Ad Hoc Bylaws Review Committee: John Randolph, Paul Kuhn, Dave Condon, Carol Burton, Al Prisk, and Ed Lee
