Letter from Your LIR President

When you receive the latest LIR Curriculum Guide, you likely are looking forward to the winter holidays with family and friends and, maybe, a trip to a warmer climate, especially if you’re not into outdoor activities.

Those of you who will remain up north after the holidays will have many entertaining and educational opportunities to consider, thanks to Curriculum Committee Chair Mike Shores and the Committee members.

A quick scan of the schedule will reveal yet another collection of sessions and activities to whet everyone’s appetite to learn. You’ll find more outdoor outings planned, as compared with semesters past, including multiple cross-country skiing and snowshoeing outings as well as a paddle excursion and trail hike. Field trips will delve into Northwoods geology, live opera, quilting and public art.

LIR member Karin Randolph will introduce us to chakras, an ancient approach to self-understanding that originated through Hindu and yoga philosophy and correlates well with current understandings in psychology and physiology. Of course, many of your favorite sessions are back, such as the Ced Vig Nature in the Northwoods series, which will tap even deeper into northern Wisconsin sources for new, exciting topics.

Happy New Year!

Ed Lee
LIR President
