Determining your academic skill level is an important step to getting on the road to success in college. Enroll in a course that's too hard and it will be difficult to avoid failure. Start off in a course that's too easy, one where you already know the material and that will translate into a less than efficient use of your time and money.

The Testing Center will help you and your academic advisor or counselor pick the courses that are just right for you, making the most productive use of your time, money, and abilities.

Tests include:

Accuplacer
All incoming students taking six or more credits are required to take the Accuplacer test. Subjects covered include math, English and reading. There's no need to make an appointment to take the Accuplacer. Testing is available on a walk-in basis at the Testing Center Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

University of Wisconsin Math Test
Students entering Nicolet's University Transfer Liberal Arts Program must take the UW Math Test. Topics include basic math, algebra and trigonometry.

Tests for Adult Basic Education (TABE)
This test assesses the skills of incoming students who scored below certain levels on the Accuplacer test. Subjects covered include math, reading, language, vocabulary and spelling. It is common for students who have not been in a classroom in a while to take this test to identify which areas they may need prep classes to get them ready for college classes.

Keyboarding
Students entering the Administrative Assistant and Medical Assistant Programs at Nicolet are required to take the Keyboarding Test. It assesses basic proficiency based on accuracy and the number of words typed per minute.

University of Wisconsin Placement Test
Students who have applied for admission to a University of Wisconsin college or university can take the University of Wisconsin System Placement Test at Nicolet. Students interested in taking this test at Nicolet should contact the UW school they are interested in attending for testing times.

ACT Test
Nicolet offers the national ACT Test six times a year. This popular test is used by colleges and universities across the country to assess academic skills in English, math, reading and science. Visit act.org for the testing schedule and registration information.

Classroom Tests
Students may also find a need to visit the Testing Center for classroom assigned testing, make up testing and proctoring for other technical colleges or universities, both public and private.

These include testing for EMT, First Responder, Paramedic, Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), and the Ramsay Mechanical Aptitude Test.
